Juta Shoes make bespoke reclaimed leather espadrilles by hand, in London from sustainable materials.
Juta believe in fair fashion, that you should know who made your shoes, and that the maker was paid a fair wage. They believe in making beautiful and useful things from reclaimed and sustainable materials, and they believe in the power of craft and creative work to empower local communities.
In Tower Hamlets, where Juta Shoes are based, over a quarter of residents are income-deprived, and women are even more likely to be underpaid or unemployed. Their mission is to combat financial and social isolation by providing well-paid, flexible employment opportunities to build confidence and gain new skills, and a strong supportive community.
Juta Shoes shoes are made from environmentally-friendly jute soles sourced from southern Spain and reclaimed leather from local factories. By saving these offcuts from landfill, they can give them new life and prevent waste. Their shoes are made from just four materials, three of which are fully biodegradable.
Offering shoes, slides, sandals and slippers, customers can choose the stitching and material for their shoes, resulting in a beautiful, bespoke creation.
